Doctor Who Heading

Update - 17 March 10: Been a while, but I have now updated the database and all the PDF files with just about everything upto the end of the 10th Doctor
Doctor Who TV Reference (PDF 2MB)
Doctor Who Big Finish Audio Reference (PDF 1.6MB)
Doctor Novel Reference (PDF 2.9MB)

Well, yes I know this is a little out of place, given the rest of my site, but I needed a bit of web space to "hide" away a little Doctor Who project of mine. So this will basically have one main thing and that is an off-line database that I've been working on. For some background, this all started when the ABC here (in Australia) as part of the 40th year of Doctor Who, did a full repeat run of all complete surviving stories. This started in September 2003 and completed its run, with Survival on Friday 3rd February 2006.

With this in mind, I started to create a database to store the story details as they went to air. As such, the database grows as each story is broadcast, since I record the cast and crew details direct from the credits, nothing more and nothing less (other then more general information, like story number, number of parts, run time, etc). Basically, the database serves my needs and stores a fair bit of general info (from a few sources) that would be nice to have.

In addition there is a start of an index list of articles in DWM (with info like article title, issue and page number) which is then cross-linked to any revelent TV stories or BF audios.
What this means, is that say you search and locate 'Dalek' from the 9th Doctor season, you can then click a button "Show DWM References" and this will bring up a list of article titles, with DWM issue number and page number that featured in DWM, that relate to that story. So in this case that would include previews, reviews, interviews with any cast/crew involved, etc.

Hence, since I'm doing this anyway, I figured I may as well post it on the web, for anyone else that may also find it useful.

It is of course not complete, both in the features that I want and more general data, like monsters.

Doctor Who Database - 17 March 2010 (18 MB)

Notes:
The database is made in MS Access, so you will need this installed, in order to open it. The reason for this is all the interface forms. Any version from Access 2007 will work. If you don't have Access, you can download the runtime library direct from Microsoft.
The link above is a self extracting compressed rar file, I tried a windows exe file this time as it's half the size of the compressed zip file and you don't need winrar in order to decompress it.

To Do:

  • add new series stories (upto date at time of release)
  • add audio stories (all main Big Finish Doctor Who stories upto BF130, plus new 8th Doctor and Lucie and general audio spin-off series (like Unit, Cybermen, Gallifrey, etc are now also included)
  • add spin-off TV shows (all series of Torchwood and SJA now included)
  • add novel stories (main BBC and Virgin novels are now included)
  • add more search/reporting options and forms (new 'Person' search feature, now covering TV, audios and books)
  • add any references to major DWM articles/features about a story (started - basic issue details, comics and per issue article list from issue 341 included, some earlier comics are now also included)
