This time around I am going to create my new character a little bit differently. While I have some idea of the final character in mind, I am going to start by creating a more "ideal" template model first. So instead of modeling the head in all its detail, then moving on to the body, etc I create a full low detail character first and then go back and add detail.
By doing this I hope to have a character that can later be re-shaped into different looks, but without having to start from scratch each time. Also, by making a "template" first I can focus more on edge loops, overall topology and proportions with future animation in mind, rather spending hours tweaking each little vertex only to discover that the head and body don't join up correctly.
While I have yet to draw up a final character design, one must still have some idea of the intended final character and some modeling reference. Once again I am planning on a female character and so collected a bunch of reference materials to use as a guide.
Since the template is just that, I worked out my modeling reference based on the "ideal" female proportions. I figured that a range of sizes could then be scaled, squashed and stretched once the basic template was created. |
